22 Car Record Attempt, Del Mar, California
|
|
| On July 4, 2001 Bubba came back to the Del Mar Fair to attempt another Harley-Davidson motorcycle jumping record. Bubba's effort was to break his own world record of flying his XR-750 over 20 cars by attempting to clear a line of 22 vehicles. Before a crowd of 35,000 spectators, Bubba's bike lost traction on the soft dirt horse track. He came up short and hit the edge of the safety ramp that extended over the final few cars. This sent him flying head-over-heals in one of motorcycle jumping's worst crashes. Bubba was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California where he made a full recovery. He appeared on the "Today" show the following week and appeared on the "Maury Povich" show in September of 2001. Bubba is currently planning his comeback jump. | ||
